Dr Awawdeh had an extensive experience teaching mathematics at a high school level when she made it her mission to find out why students find mathematics too challenging. Her research into mathematics education and cognition gave her the secret sause for teaching for understanding. After completing her PhD at UNSW, she decided to put the theory into pratice and started Gobal Education Academy.
Dr Awawdeh’s previous experience at UNSW managing and writing International Competitions and Assessments for School (ISAC) mathematics as well as the complex field of largel-scale assessments gave her an immeasurable insight into the specific learning needs of students.
She also has extensive experience with writing General Achievement Test (GAT) for mathematics. Teaching mathematics in high schools for more than 25 years instilled in her an appreciation for teaching for UNDERSTANDING.
GEA has evolved as a result of the founder’s, Dr Majeda Awawdeh, passion for teaching, her research into Cognitive Load Theory
and the belief that education and knowledge should be shared.

Dr Majeda Awawdeh
Author | Educator | Entrepreneur | Founder of Australia’s Leading Research-Based Learning Centre
Dr Majeda Awawdeh is an Australian Educator and Author. She is best known for her research alongside Prof John Sweller for studying an influential theory of Cognitive Load. She is also fluent in three languages: Arabic, Hebrew and English.
She completed a degree in Mathematics & Computer Sciences and Education in 1992 from the University of Haifa and then went on to complete a master’s degree in Mathematics Education in 2002 from the University of Haifa.
After receiving a scholarship for outstanding research in her field, she came to Australia and completed her Ph.D from the University of New South Wales in 2008 – her thesis titled Cognitive Load Theory & Mathematics education.
