Year 9 Maths Tutoring

Unlike others, at Global Education Academy children are taught to understand, think and learn.

Following our 5C methodology, students’ confidence is boosted, their engagement is expressed in and outside the classroom and most importantly, their passion for learning is ignited.

At Global Education Academy we offer Year 8 tutoring near you in two locations in Sydney (Kogarah and Turramurra) in the two main core subjects:” Year 8 Maths tutoring and Year 8 English tutoring and the specialised tutoring for the selective placement test and scholarship placement test and also the opportunity class (OC) Placement test.

Year 8  is the year where most schools start grouping students in levels for future maths and English. These group levels usually start in Year 9 and continue to Year 12. Whether students are looking to do extension maths or English, or want to have strong foundation in their core subjects, they need to start accelerating their maths and English immediately.

GEA does not put a ceiling on students’ learning. Each student can have their individual path and excel. With our maths tutors and English tutors guidance, students learn to analyse assessments and tasks, study and manage their time and most importantly they are equipped with cognitive load management techniques.

Year 9 Maths Tutoring

Year 9 Maths tutoring at GEA is all about conceptual understanding.

It is not about the number of questions your child will go through, but it is about if they understand the concepts or not.

Our maths tutoring methodology, curriculum and strategies are developed based on current research into education and cognition and follows Cognitive Load Theory, the leading theory into explicit learning.

In our Year 8 maths tutoring courses tutors explain each concept at a deeper level and make sure your child understands it thoroughly. Following this, strategies are explained and demonstrated and linked to the concept tutored so your child can solve the questions with understanding.

The three key points we focus on are:

  1. Conceptual understanding
  2. Strategies that are linked to the concept taught and explained thoroughly
  3. Problem solving – using our unique strategy UPSLTM

The UPSLTM strategy

It stands for

UNDERSTAND- making sure students understand the question; the information given, the key words, and what the question is asking

PLAN – students are taught how to plan for the solution. Usually, the planning part is the most difficult for students. They sometimes just want to give an answer. Planning is an important skill that if it is learned at an early age, saves a lot of tutoring and a lot of struggles in the future.

SOLVE – students solve the question simply by executing the plan. They will be directed by the tutors on ways to execute with minimal mistakes.
LEARN- after each question, students reflect on the question solved and on what they have learned from it. This is very important as it directs some of the cognitive load in the brain towards the vital process of building schemas. Schemas are mental structure that can be used in the future to solve similar problems. Our tutors are trained on how to facilitate this step.

At Global Education Academy (GEA), we take a scientific and research-based approach to English tutoring. Our structured Year 1 English program is designed to develop your child’s language skills with a clear focus on literacy fundamentals.

We cover all core components of the English language through a carefully crafted curriculum:

  • Reading – Improve fluency, decoding, and confidence through structured reading exercises.

  • Reading Comprehension – Strengthen understanding across a variety of text types and question styles.

  • Spelling – Develop memory retention with visual and auditory learning strategies.

  • Vocabulary – Learn 10–20 new academic words per session to boost written and spoken expression.

  • Grammar & Syntax – Master parts of speech and sentence structure in an age-appropriate way.

  • Punctuation – Apply punctuation rules with accuracy through guided practice and feedback.

  • Writing – Learn to plan, write, and edit across multiple genres using strategies inspired by high school-level writing, simplified for primary learners.

Our Year 1 English tutors in Sydney are experienced educators who understand how to make literacy enjoyable and effective. Whether your child is building confidence, preparing for school assessments, or aiming ahead — we’re here to help them succeed.

Success Story

George from 19% in Year 8 to accelerated maths in Year 11.

George came to us at the end of Year 8 with 19% in his Year 8 maths final exam. He was assessed and found to have a potential to be high performing in maths, but his results showed otherwise.

He was recommended a plan of group classes combined with individual tutoring at GEA. He worked very hard during the term and also during the school holiday. George spent a year at GEA then was good to go on his own as he improved significantly and become confident and independent in his maths. Two years later, we received a phone call from George’s mum telling us that George was chosen by his school to do accelerated maths in Year 11. She was over the moon and was kind enough to call and share the great news with us.
